Proti Proudu, also known as Against the Current, is a small hidden gem located in the neighbourhood of Karlín, a funky residential area in the north of Prague.

This breakfast / brunch spot is very popular with the locals, and has an awesome, relaxed atmosphere, perfect to start the day with great coffee!

The café offers a special breakfast menu until 11h30, with classics such as toast and scrambled eggs. Keep in mind that all menus are written in Czech, but the super friendly staff will be more than happy to help you out!

Lokál

If you’re looking to experience proper Czech food without breaking the bank, Lokál is the perfect place to go.

These Czech chain restaurants can be found throughout the city, and focus primarily on local cuisine and fresh ingredients from the region. Of course, you have to pair these amazing dishes with a cold beer from their tanks!

Keep in mind that the menu might differ depending on the location, even though the main staple dishes remain the same.

Our favourite spot is definitely Lokál U Bílé kuželky, on the castle side of the Charles Bridge, but we have to give an honourable mention to the last arrival located close to Wenceslas Square.

The Street Burgers & Cocktails Konviktská

Want to know where to get the best burgers in town?

Head over to The Street Burgers & Cocktails Konviktská, a small restaurant located only a short walk away from the city centre. Here you’ll find huge portions, a friendly staff that speaks perfect English, and some of the best burgers we’ve ever had!

Keep in mind that the venue is quite small, so we recommend you call ahead and book a table, especially during the high season. The size also makes it quite hot during the summer. Finally, as of right now, it is a cash only restaurant!

Dim Sum Spot Palackého

Dim Sum Spot Palackého is another hidden gem, located only a short distance from Wenceslas Square.

The venue is super small and cozy, and offers outdoor seating during the summer months. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to experience the terrace, as a storm forced us inside. In the end, however, the thunder and rain only added to the amazing charm of the place!

Unlike other dim-sum restaurants we’ve visited, Palackého focuses on simple, local ingredients, with an emphasis on flavour over appearance. All dumplings are made the traditional way, without looking too fancy, but with many interesting flavour combinations. Absolutely delicious!

U Kroka

U Kroka takes the simplicity of Czech food and elevates it to a whole new level.

The restaurant is located quite a distance from the city centre, not far from the beautiful park of Vyšehrad. But don’t let that stop you from experiencing one of the best restaurants in Prague!

The food is incredibly flavourful, the portions generous but not too large, and the beer amazing as everywhere in the city. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, without being too clingy.

We definitely recommend going there for dinner, after catching the sunset from the top of Vyšehrad. Later, take a walk by the Vltava river and the Dancing House to really conclude your day in a memorable way!

Bistro Špejle

Bistro Špejle is definitely one of the most unique food experiences in Prague.

The place operates more as a self-service, tapas-style restaurant, with small savoury dishes that include both Czech, international and vegan cuisine, as well as desserts.

So, how does it work?

Each dish comes with one or more wooden sticks. Each stick costs 33 Kč, and at the end of the meal you simply pay for the number of sticks that you collected. While cheap, the portions are small and can add up very quickly, especially because the food is delicious, so don’t get greedy!

As a personal recommendation, you have to try their house gin. It isn’t the cheapest, but it is one of the best we’ve ever had!

If you’re in the mood for something other than Czech cuisine, why not head over to Praha Matzip for some authentic Korean dishes?

Located only a few steps away from the Old Town Square, this restaurant serves giant portions of Korean classics, such as bibimbap, tteokbokki, fried chicken and more. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with suggestions and recommendations, and the whole restaurant has a homy and relaxed vibe.

Also, don’t forget to try their lemonades, they go a long way after a hot summer day exploring Prague!
