Are you looking for some unique and quirky cafés while coffee hunting in Malacca?

Well, we've got you covered!

Although Malaysia is mainly known as a tea-drinking country, you would be surprised by how fast its coffee culture has grown in recent years.

In the heart of historical Malacca you’ll spot coffee shops on every corner, especially around Jonker Walk, a bustling and popular Chinatown street in the heart of the city.

If you are a coffee lover like us you will certainly love this city, and just hopping from one café to the other.

From family-run cafés to trendy modern coffee shops, these are 7 of the best coffee places you can find within the city of Malacca!

So, let’s go and explore!

The Coffee JAR

Address: 38, Lorong Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia

Hidden in a busy street in downtown Malacca, The Coffee JAR is a cute twin café divided into two adjacent locations. On one side you have a modern coffee shop with an aesthetic decor, while the other one resembles a retro store filled with nostalgic decor such as music cassettes and old books.

The first thing you will notice as you go in is the aromatic smell of coffee. Their coffee beans are roasted on the spot and make for some really intense and delicious flavours. We found their matcha drinks and cappuccinos to be absolutely fantastic, and obviously you can’t go wrong with a simple but strong black coffee or espresso!

On top of their amazing choice of coffee, they have some homemade sweets and tarts that complement their drinks really well. We especially loved their lemon tarts!

If you are craving a really good cup of coffee and are in need of a nice place to relax in between explorations, give this place a visit and you won‘t be disappointed!

The Daily Fix Cafe

Address: 55, Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia

If there is a king of cafés in Malacca, that would be The Daily Fix Cafe. Established in 2014, this popular coffee shop has remained to this day one of the most recommended cafes in the whole city.

Because of its popularity, The Daily Fix Cafe can be crowded most days, so it is possible that you might have to wait in line. Keep that in mind especially if you intend to enjoy their breakfast and brunch menus, as this is the most popular time to visit.

Once you manage to get yourself a spot, enjoy its vibrant young atmosphere and chic decor while sipping on your drink of choice. This is a great place to unwind and people watch.

Do not forget to try the famous ‘pandan’ pancakes while you are here: these are freshly made with pandan juice, and are a traditional Malaysian and Indonesian dessert. They were responsible for the beginning of the craze that brought this café to be as popular as it is today!

If you’ve been wandering if you should visit The Daily Fix Cafe and grab a bite to eat here, you’ll be happy to know that this café is definitely worth the hype!

Coffeebar125+

Tucked away in a quieter street, Coffeebar125+ might have been our favourite coffee spot in the city of Malacca!

From the moment that you step in this cute industrial coffee shop, you feel welcomed by the friendly locals that run this café. They might even engage in conversation with you like they did with us, which we found lovely and added to the charm of the place.

The coffee here is absolutely fantastic, with the cappuccino and espresso as highlights for us. You can tell straight away that they really are coffee connaisseurs, which makes this speciality coffee spot one of the best that you can visit in Malacca.

Although unassuming at first, they actually serve some really good food too. We tried their homemade bagels and found them to be delicious, and it was definitely a very satisfying bite!

If you are planning on catching up on some work, this is a nice and calm café to do so. You might even spot a few other customers on their laptops while there.

Alley No.5

Address: 18, Lorong Jambatan, Kampung Pantai, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia

Located within the quieter streets of Jonker Walk, Alley No.5 is a really small and cozy coffee spot where you can enjoy a nice afternoon drink and a quick bite.

This café is known for its delicious cheesecakes, with the pandan cheesecake being the highlight! We loved trying their lemon and ondeh ondeh cheesecakes, both delicious and packed with rich flavours.

This is a simple coffee shop with just a few tables, decorated in a retro style and with some really nice music playing in the background. There are also some friendly cats that belong to the owners of this café that happily walk around the place, which we found lovely!

Ikan Emas Coffee

Address: 75, Lorong Jambatan, Kampung Jawa, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia

Located down a very small and narrow alleyway, Ikan Emas Coffee is a small and cozy hidden café in the heart of Malacca.

This is as close to a local spot as you can find in the city, and because of its quiet location it is the ideal place to stop by to either have a full meal, or just grab a well deserved cup of coffee in between explorations.

This traditional Malay café is run by just one person, which is impressive given the amazing variety of drinks and food choices available on the menu. Everything is prepared with a lot of care, and the food portions are generous and packed with flavour.

To top it all off, the coffee drinks are no short of impressive! We found the beans served here to be incredibly deep and rich, with a nice but bold coffee taste.

If you are looking for a nice café serving halal food, this is the place for you! You will get to enjoy some delicious local specialities in a cozy environment, and take a break from the busy streets if you're feeling tired of walking around Jonker Walk.

Kafe Tuju

Address: 4A, 4B, Kampung Jawa, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia

Located in a small alley in Malacca, Kafe Tuju is an old school coffee shop with a very nice and laid-back atmosphere. The retro decor really transports you back in time, and the friendly owners make you feel at home!

If you’d like to catch up on some work online, this is a perfect chill place to do so. There is fast free Wi-fi available with great signal, good enough to take some business calls if you have to.

This is also a suitable café to relax and read a book, as the ambient music remains quiet, making it a great local coffee shop to just relax while you sip on your drink of choice.

You absolutely need to try their signature iced Tuju coffee while there! It has the perfect balance you need, not too bitter and also not overly sweet. They also use local Malaysian beans for this coffee, which makes it quite a unique and hearty drink.

Many locals gather here to catch up with friends and family, making this café a great place to relax and enjoy good music in an environment with almost no tourists.

A true gem in the city of Malacca!

Sin See Tai

Address: 18, Kampung Jawa, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia

Nested in a tiny alley by the Malacca river, Sin See Tai is a peaceful and unique café that one could easily pass by without noticing it.

It is quite a small venue, with a beautiful and comfortable seating area on its second floor. The only drawback to this is that the stairs leading to that section of the café are quite steep and narrow, meaning they are unfortunately not suited for the mobility-impaired.

The first thing you will notice as you step into this cozy café is the amazing smell of fresh coffee, and the huge variety of pastries and cakes available. That, paired with the friendly welcome from the owners and staff, really makes you feel at home.

Coffee here was as delicious as it was beautifully presented! We definitely recommend that you pair it with one of their cheesecakes, or one of the many other sweets available.

If you have a camera, you will want to bring it with you to this coffee shop. This is a very picturesque café with plenty of photo opportunities, and their drinks and food presentation is top-notch. You will definitely feel like snapping some pictures while there!

Whether you're seeking a calm and hidden café or would just love to treat yourself to some really delicious pastries, Sin See Tai is the ideal place to relax and have a true moment of tranquility in the heart of Malacca.
