Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 Review

Ever had to put your camera away, only to have to take it back out a moment later because the perfect photo opportunity just presented itself?

Itโ€™s an annoying scenario that most photographers will face at one point, and while you can simply use a strap, we always disliked the way they make the camera swing around from our neck.

Today weโ€™re taking a look at the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3, and seeing if itโ€™s really the solution weโ€™ve been looking for!

# Overview

The Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 is meant as an easy way to free your hands without having to rely on a neck strap or having to store your camera away in your backpack.

Itโ€™s made out of two parts, a clip that can be attached to either a shoulder strap or a belt, and a plate that is screwed to the underside of your camera. The plate slides inside the clip and locks securely in place, leaving you free to move around without your camera swinging around and getting in the way.

# Materials

The body of the clip is made of anodised aluminium, which is water and rust resistant, with a steel locking pin, ensuring that your camera remains safely in place. The inside is covered by a rubber pad to maximise grip and stop the clip from sliding.

The tough weather resistant construction makes ideal for both an urban and outdoor use.

  • Careful: This accessory might be too small to fit on the shoulder straps of large hiking backpacks!

# Size

The Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 is a compact and light accessory, weighing just around 84g and measuring 8.3 cm x 4.0 cm x 2.0 cm.

  • Pro-Tip: Itโ€™s hardly noticeable when in place, even though people with large arms and chest might find it can get slightly in the way. If thatโ€™s the case, you might prefer wearing it on your belt.

# Features

The design is extremely simple and effective, you just slide the plate into the clip and it immediately locks in place. By pressing the button on the side, the steel pin releases your camera and youโ€™re good to go. For extra security, the button can also be rotated to lock the pin. It really is an easy-to-learn system, and with a little bit of practice you can even do it one handed!

  • Pro-Tip: The design of the clip allows you to store your camera both vertically or horizontally. By clipping your camera facing up, you can even use this system to easily switch lenses on the go!

When the camera is clipped in there is very little movement, and essentially no risk of it detaching. I will say though that it does take a while to get used to having your expensive set-up hanging from a little piece of metal attached to your shoulder strap. Also, while the clip itself is barely noticeable, having a camera with a large and heavy lens attached to it can get tiring after a while

The only real downside of this accessory is that it requires you to attach the plate to the underside of the camera by using a hex key. The plate in question is an Arca-Swiss Quick Release, and will only fit on tripods that are compatible with that system. This means that if, like us, you have non-compatible tripod, you either need to invest in a new one or remove the plate every time with a hex key, which is both unpractical and time consuming.

Also, even though the build quality is flawless, with a price tag of โ‚ฌ59,99 it is a fairly pricy accessory.
