Stanley Quencher Travel Tumbler Review

Summer is finally here, and with temperatures already in the “uncomfortably sticky range” it’s more important than ever to stay hydrated.

With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at the Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler, or just simply the Stanley Cup, the latest product to take the internet and social media by storm.

This funky tumbler has properly split public opinion in half, with some people loving its design and functionality, while others dismiss it as a trendy piece of junk.

We’ve always had a soft spot for Stanley, so we’ve decided to grab one of these tumblers for ourselves and test it out to see which side of the argument we fall on!

Let’s get started.

# Design and Features

Out of the box, the first thing that catches our eye is the huge handle that sticks out from the back of the tumbler. Its rounded edges and rubberised sections make it pretty ergonomic and comfortable to hold, and there is no denying that it’s a major eye-catcher.

The only issue is that the huge handle also makes it impossible to store the tumbler in a backpack’s bottle holder.

Another interesting feature is how the bottom of the tumbler is tapered down.

The purpose of this design is to allow the Stanley Cup to fit into a car’s cup holder, and Stanley claims it should be compatible with all car models. We don’t own a car ourselves, so we haven’t been able to test this feature, but we can see how this could make that daily morning commute a bit more enjoyable.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What really sets the Stanley Cup apart from the competition, however, is its new “FlowState” lid, which features three different positions to ensure the bottle is ready for use in every situation:

  • In the first position the lid is fully closed. This allows you to stash your tumbler in your bag without it spilling everywhere. Be careful though, as the lid doesn’t form an hermetic seal and might end up leaking a little if you store it sideways or upside down!

  • By twisting the cap sideways, you’ll uncover a simple drinking opening. This mode doesn’t allow for a large amount of liquid to flow through, making it perfect for sipping that hot morning coffee.

  • Twist the cap again, and you’ll find a circular opening meant to fit the included reusable straw. The straw is held firmly in place and doesn’t move, but in this mode the bottle really does spill all over the place if shaken!

Finally, the Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler is fully insulated, allowing it to hold your drink hot for up to 7 hours, and cold for up to 11.

# What is it made of?

The Stanley cup is made entirely of 90% recycled 18/8 stainless steel, with the exception of the plastic lid and the rubberised parts of the handle.

The steel construction makes it extra durable and rust proof, ensuring it can take accidental drops and bumps without any issues. Being made out of stainless steel, the Stanley Cup can also be put in the dishwasher.

On that note, this tumbler also features a powder finished coating of paint that will help prevent scratches, and gives it a nice grippy feeling in the hand!

# Is it for you?

The Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate is excellent for what it is meant for, as an everyday tumbler to keep you hydrated and to bring your favourite drink with you during your daily activities, whether it’s work, sports or studies. It’s solid enough to take a fall, won’t leak all over your bag (if you’re careful), and it just looks so funky!

It’s definitely a fashion statement, and is bound to attract some attention. If that’s what you’re looking for, then we absolutely recommend you purchase the Stanley Cup

Now, if like us you’re thinking more of the Stanley Cup in terms of a travel item, you’ll unfortunately be disappointed. All in all, we couldn’t find any reason why we would pick it over a classic Klean Kanteen, Yeti or Hydro Flask insulated bottle, or even another Stanley.

When compared, it is simply too bulky, cannot compete in the insulation department, and the risk of spillage is unacceptable considering you cannot stash the bottle on the outside of your bag.

We can see it being useful if you intend on remaining in the same location for a prolonged period of time, but really, in the end it doesn’t do anything that your old water bottle won’t already do.

# Pros & Cons

+ Fun, modern design

+ Plenty of colour options

+ Ergonomic handle

+ Super tough build

+ Practical lid

+ Vacuum insulated

+ Supposedly fits in all cup holders

- Might spill when improperly stored

- It’s bulky, and slightly heavy

- At $45, it’s a little pricy

# Should You Get One?

So, in conclusion, should you get a Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate?

Honestly, why not.

  • It’s a tumbler with a fun and interesting design, a solid build and plenty of features that make it worth the price, even though it is indeed a little expensive.

  • The insulation, while nothing special compared to some of the competition, is more than decent enough for its intended usage, and we can see this tumbler becoming a mainstay of our daily activities both at home and around the city.

What we don’t see happening, however, is the Stanley Cup coming with us on our travels anytime soon.

If you’re looking to purchase one to replace your current water bottle, then we cannot recommend you choose the The Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate
